Food File Plus extends the extremely popular Food File software with advanced new features aimed at nutritionists and other health care professionals - or for anyone with a particular interest in what they eat.

There is now just one version of Food File, which incorporates all the features of Food File Plus. Food File is free of charge.

Food File Plus contains all the features of its baby brother, Food File, plus advanced filtering, sorting and other features. Read on for more details of the extra features, or see below for a few practical examples of what can be done with this software.

Major Extra Feature Summary

  • Nutrient Filters
This advanced feature will help you find foods that fit your particular diet requirements without having to look through every item.

  • Sort by Nutrient
Sort the list of foods instantly by any of the 42 nutrients. If you, or your patient, is short of any vitamin or mineral you can quickly find which foods have the most. Similarly if you need to avoid some nutrients you can find out which foods have the least.

  • Note Taking
You can now attach a note to any item in the database, you can use this for research, reminders, recipes etc.

  • Simple Interface
The extra features are designed to be as easy to use as the original Food File software. The Flash animation on the left shows how simple it is to use.

  • Instant-Search
The advanced filtering and sorting can be used in conjunction with each other, and the groups tab. The food list is still updated as quickly as you type.

Nutrient Filters

The Filters tab view (see fig 1. left) adds the capability to refine the food list based on nutritional content. Simply check one or more of the supplied filters and Food File Plus will display only the foods that fall in to that category.

You can use multiple filters in combination. For instance you can display all the food products suitable for a low fat, low sodium diet by simply checking two filters.

As well as the supplied filters, you can also create and use your own. Clicking the 'Add' button on the Filters tab brings up the 'Edit Rule' dialog (see below). You can create an unlimited number of filters for any of the 42 nutrients with this simple dialog.

Sort By Nutrient

In Food File Plus you can sort the list of foods by any of the 42 nutrients, in ascending or descending order (see fig 2. left). This feature is very useful for quickly finding the food products with most or least content of a particular nutrient.

The sorting happens instantaneously and can be used in combination with the Groups and Filters tabs.

Note Taking

You can enter an unlimited number of notes for any of the 1000s of food products contained in the Food File database. The notes are displayed alongside the nutritional information. Ideal for research purposes, storing recipes, allergy warnings etc..
